Night Squad by Stephen Jarrell Williams

reubenwoolley's avatarI am not a silent poet

Listening to their singing

Mothers and children getting ready for bed

Outlines of light behind their curtains

Drawn against this world of now

They are still hopeful their lives will be as before

We stand in our places protecting them

Our pretend weapons cold against our hot flesh

The night holding our voices still

Ready for the always possible attack

Wondering what we did wrong

To deserve the madness

Spreading across the good earth

Seemingly no words or ideas can stop

The sword and bullet and bomb.

Bio-
Not so long ago, Stephen Jarrell Williams was called by some, the Great Poet of Doom…  Now, he writes at night, enthused, and waiting for the Coming Good Dawn.
