Τhis book will be launched in this coming Saturday, 17 October in Fitzroy, Melbourne.

In this 740 pages long new book, the reader can find the “biography” of the inner suburb of Melbourne and of Π.Ο. himself, through the more than 400 portraits of some of the most important people in Australia, from prime ministers and priests to artists and gangsters…

The reader can also find portraits of places and stories about the visits in Melbourne of international “acts” such as poet Allen Ginsberg, troubadour Bob Dylan, boxing great and political activist Mohammad Ali and others…

The Greek Australian and the migrant presence in Fitzroy, once upon a time, is featured as well.

Important Australian poet Π.Ο. was born in Katerini in 1951 and arrived in Melbourne with his family in 1954. P.O. who now lives in Preston was raised in Fitzroy, worked as a survey draughtsman and edited a number of poetry magazines. Currently he edits the magazine “unusual work”.

Π.Ο. is the poet amongst the others of the critically acclaimed book “24 Hours”, an epic poem that takes place within 24 hours and has been described as an act of homage to the once working class suburbs of inner Melbourne, particularly Fitzroy.

Σε αυτό το βιβλίο, ο Π.Ο., παρουσιάζει τη δική του «βιογραφία», αλλά και τη «βιογραφία» ενός σημαντικού για την ιστορία και τον πολιτισμό της Αυστραλίας προαστίου της Μελβούρνης, του Fitzroy, μέσα από περισσότερα από 400 πορτρέτα ανθρώπων και χώρων που έχουν άμεση σχέση με την περιοχή στην οποία έζησε και μεγάλωσε o ποιητής.

Μέσα από τις σελίδες του βιβλίου περνάει και η μεταναστευτική ιστορία και ανθρωπογεωγραφία ενός προαστίου προπύργιου κάποτε της εργατικής τάξης της Αυστραλίας, των Αβορίγινων αλλά και των μεταναστών, Ελλήνων και άλλων…
