Beware of Greeks Bearing (Just) Poems!!!
The Overload Poetry Festival is celebrating its tenth year with an impressive line up of established and emerging poets. From humble beginnings in bars and pubs around Melbourne, Overload has grown to become one of the most successful festivals and keeping true to its name, offers a week of poetry to your heart’s content from Saturday 10th of September.
The Greeks of this town, not averse to the poetic art in all its forms, are participating in Overload 2011 with an all Greek-Australian line up of mostly emerging poets.
Helena Spyrou, Pixie Trangas, Connie Armatas, Dina Gerolymou and Dimitris Troaditis are Greeks Bearing Poems.
The five are warning that they bear no responsibility, guns, money, sharp objects, flammables, fragile and other hazardous materials. Just poems.
The quintet will be performing their poetry at the Willow Bar in Northcote on Thursday 15th of September at 8.30pm.
Dimitris Troaditis and Helena Spyrou are established poets and have published and performed their poetry widely.
Dina Gerolymou and Pixie Trangas are emerging poets who publish their work online and occasionally read in public.
Connie Armatas is the new kid on the block.
They’ll be reading in Greek and English as most of them are bilingual and find themselves often to have strayed in poetic paths where their mother tongue swirls and blends in with their second language like full-cream milk in a dark, frothy, silky smooth frappe!
Beware of Greeks Bearing Poems is a free event.
